I really liked your extra paragraph at the end. It tied the whole theme of parents' affects on their children quite nicely. What really got me is you pointing out how the persistent presence of the boy's father is getting up at 4am to head to the boat rather than as a beaten and weathered corpse. It's so simple it hadn't occurred to me until I read it here. =)
